Music & Words

SONGWRITING

I have been writing songs for as long as I remember. Some have stayed with me, while some have disappeared into the mists of time – probably a blessing.  My songs have been performed in theatre plays, on significant occasions and in galleries, pubs, clubs, art festivals, around camp fires and after dinner.

I have been a musician/composer in Brisbane’s Royal Childrens Hospital (funded by the Australia Council) composing songs with terminally and chronically ill children (which was amazingly illuminating about the freedom of lyrics over dialogue) and have composed for theatre works including a song for BighART’s Gold project.

I am by nature a storyteller and my songs are inspired by real events and are a meditation/reflection of my responses and views of the world. My influences are jazz, middle eastern rhythms and blues and great storytelling songwriters such as Suzanne Vega, Tom Waits, Patti Smith and Eddie Vedder.

I aim to hear my songs in films, documentaries, television series and theatre works. I currently have over 30 good songs in my portfolio. I am composing constantly and can provide new commissioned works according to a script or theme.

I recently wrote a new commissioned song ‘Our love of beautiful things never died’ to celebrate the Mildura Art Vault’s 5th Birthday and performed it to a room full of Australian artists, sponsors and special guests.

I am currently recording these songs for better quality and these here can give you an idea of what I can do. I look forward to hearing how you would like to put your mark on my songs.
